the latest painting

26th May 2007:

I have just finished my latest watercolour of the Great Created Grebe, as per the stages shown previously. This has been added to the website.

Not so long ago I saw quite a few of these at Roath Park Lake in Cardiff.... fab birds.

This watercolour will soon be framed and for sale.

What`s next ? No idea at the moment. If I can find the time I will try and organise the long-overdue Life drawing sessions, but will also probably continue with my nature watercolour theme in order to continue preparation for later this year.

Venue wanted

22nd May 2007:
I am looking for a venue to perhaps hold a one-day exhibition later in 2007 in or around the Llanelli area. Preferably the venue should be modern and well lit, with spot / pinspot lighting, and in an attractive area. A spacious and calm environment would be suitable.

slow progress

19th May 2007:

Lack of time has meant there has been little progress on my Great Crested Grebe watercolour. This is an image of how it has been sitting on my board for the last few days. A long way to go.....

`Duckling days`

Although not strictly to do with my art website, as a bird lover I thought that you would be interested to know that the WWT in Llanelli (where I volunteer when I can) are having their annual `Duckling Days` tours soon, from Saturday 26th May to Sunday 3rd June, and every Sunday in June.

This is an opportunity to get up close to the ducklings that are being raised in the hatchery and duckeries, protected from predators (particularly gulls).

Grebe watercolour

7th May 2007:

Bank HolidayMonday, and making a start on the next watercolour project, a Great Crested Grebe. These birds have always fascinated me, and after spending time on the two Owl paintings this year I wanted to try (at least) to paint these delicate birds.

This is a day one, work-in-progress image, just to see how the picture will build over the next few weeks. I like to start with having a rough eye in place fairly soon as somewhere to keep focus on. This is also the final area of the painting normally, removing the masking fluid and trying to give the eye the correct tone and highlight that would help bring the picture to life.

I am in the process of working on a new format for the galleries on my art website, using Lightroom as an experiment in order to be able to view the images as an alternative slideshow. Things should be up within the week.

I am looking for a decent venue in the Llanelli area to hold a small exhibition later in the year. Any offers of a suitable site would be gratefully received, and dealt with in confidence. Please e-mail me off the website.
